Will Morgan on the Edwards Stage Oct. 7th

This Friday Oct. 7th, on the Edwards stage, Will Morgan will be performing. Coffee will begin brewing at 7:30 and the concert will begin at 8. Typical Edwards sets last about an hour but I've given the stage to Will for as long as he wants. Admission is free and gourmet coffee is only a dollar.

Will is a great guy that I have actually had the pleasure to befriend. He inspires me through his passion for everything he does and his dedication to pursue what God wants for him in his life no matter how drastic it may seem to others. He is originally from Longview, Texas. Will has always found comfort and joy in music of every kind. At the age of 16, he began playing guitar and singing. Since then, six years have passed and he now has developed his own style by learning to play new instruments, such as harmonica and ukulele, and written many original songs. Will takes joy in pure, simple music with lyrics that may speak to listeners in many different ways. He offers hope, love, and joy through positive lyrics and upbeat music drawn from true occurrences in his life, frequently inspired by the wilderness. Will is an Accounting student here at Abilene Christian University. Style of music: Acoustic rock, chill surf, folk
Major influences: Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Matt Costa, M. Ward

Please come and embrace Will Morgans musical talents and stories.

Bin Bin will find you...

Bin Bin is one of the funniest characters I've met recently. He is a foreign exchange student from China and is energetically still learning about the American culture and English phrases. Here is a quick story about him :). Arron (RA for 2nd East) noticed a couple getting a little too comfortable down near the stage area in the lobby. Arron was just about to have an awkward encounter when Bin Bin conveniently walks around the corner. Arron asked Bin Bin for a friendly favor and to go break up the couple by telling them, with a stern voice, "There is NO PDA in the lobby!" Even with a puzzled face Bin Bin agrees. He walked down the step and yelled, "HEY YOU! THERE IS NO PDA IN THE LOBBY! ARRON SAYS SO!" This startled the couple so bad they both almost fell off the couch with wide eyes. As they processed what just happened they agreed to Bin Bin stern request. He then returned to Arron and asked what PDA meant and who those people were haha. Bin Bin your awesome! Meet him and you may be able to visualize this hilarious scene better.

Brainstorming

Residence of Edwards Hall!

The craziness of the first couple of school weeks have (hopefully) died down a bit and everyone is starting to get a good understanding of their schedule. This is a perfect time to start brainstorm awesome programs that you want to be apart of. If you are unaware, your RA's are here to help you in a variety of ways. One way is by organizing all sorts of events/activities for your enjoyment. So to make sure you actually want to attend these ACU funded activities brainstorm some awesome things to do and tell your RA's about them.
Here are some great examples from past years:
  • Tournaments of all kinds from N64 super smash bros to ping pong or even dodge ball
  • Late night pizza parties
  • Concerts and coffee
  • Edwards vs. Mabee capture the flag matches
  • Movie Primer parties
  • "B" movie nights (making fun of ridiculously awful movies)
Use some of these ideas or come up with your own and start talking with your RA's!

Freshmen Move in!

Welcome incoming freshmen. Maybe you've heard of the greatness of Edwards Hall. Or maybe you've been living under a rock. Those are pretty much the only two options.

Lets be honest. You know how we do things at Edwards. WE DO THEM BIG! That's why when you hear that we make a personal guarantee that you will be moved in to your room in 12 minutes or less, you know we are telling the truth! That's not just the ACU difference. That's the Edwards Hall difference!

Do you see all those orange shirted people moving some lucky freshmen in? Thats a good looking group of Oompa Loompas moving your TV and shower caddy in. Oh wait. You don't need a shower caddy in Edwards, because we have, wait for it.... Private bathrooms! Booyah Mabee! Booyah!

Air Hockey Tournament

Morgan Davis the 1st South RA, hosted Edwards' first official annual air hockey tournament on Tuesday. 12 or so student entered the competition and let me tell you, the players came prepared. While the tournament bracket was being created everyone began their pregame rituals. The strikers stretched out their arms and felt the stability of their elbows as if they were inspecting an old injury. The defensive specialist like myself were zoned out and focused on the table, watching an invisible puck bounce around the arena, trying to read how the puck would react hitting off of different angles. Lastly, the mind gamers, those are the guys who try and joke around a lot in attempt to loosen you up so they can take advantage of your loss of concentration. They moved between each cluster of men speaking loud, laughing, and asking all kinds of irrelevant questions. Then, as if a surprise to all... the bracket was set and the first match was announced. After everyone put down their pizza and drinks the competition began. tough battles including long rallies and heart wrenching goals were fought. The puck itself seemed to crush under the pressures of the competition at times and it flung itself across the room. One by one competitors fell until there were only two men remaining, Eric Schumann and yours truly Drew Corbin. The final would be decided in a best 2 out of 3 match. The first game seemed too easy for Mr. Schumann, his endurance from weeks of practice really showed. He won in a quick 7-4 victory. Switch sides. The second game lasted a bit longer but Eric seemed to have troubles against my refocuses defense. In fact, a rare and incredible shutout occurred, I won with a 7-0 victory. Although I was happy with the victory I was unsure if a shutout was really what I wanted. Eric seemed to have fire in his eyes. Switch sides. THE FINAL GAME! points went back and forth, up by one, tie, up by one, tie... when the score reached 4-4 both opponents took a minute to recollect themselves and acknowledge each others skills and pit stains. As they got back into it the shots started falling for me and soon the game and tournament was over. A victor had risen... DREW CORBIN WINS! haha please come back next year and try and take my title. Respect to all competitors, it was a great time.

Sing Song Sickness

Sing Song is sick for 2 reasons:
  1. As many of you have/are experiencing, everyone seems to get sick. But even if you are barely able to get out of bed don't give up! It is less than a week away and you have already put so much time and effort into it.
  2. Sing Song is also sick because of how freaking awesome it is! Not just for the performers but for the people in the audience as well. It is such a fun and unique competition/show that I'll guaranty you will get the chills up and down your back at least 3 times.
It should be a great show this year and it seems the competition is tight between all of the categories. I encourage all of you to go and if you want to find a group to go with ask around the hall or contact myself and let do it!

Winter Blizzard '11

As we all know, we just got 4 snow days in a row making it a 7 day weekend. One of the greatest weeks of my college experience so far...and by far. Because of the limitless amount of time on my hands I took a moment to observe how interconnected our human actions and attitudes are with good ol' mother nature. It seems when the whether is nice, people are nice. When it is hot and sunny, people play sand volleyball and chill by the pool (thanks Grove). And now that the weather is snowing and cold everyone is making snowmen and soup. I love the connection and I love traditions. In fact my favorite tradition I observed was in the common room on first east aka "The Man Cave". It is the tradition of hunkering down and gather all the friends and blankets you can and make a fort! Here are a couple of pictures of this awesome man cave (which also welcomes girls) created by non-other than Andrew Morrison, Austin Anderson, Nick Tatum, and many others. This are the kind of awesome memories being made here at Edwards.
